Julie Barrer Assistant Director

My first summer at camp Downer was 1978. I was 8 years and I was hooked. Now I get to return every summer and my own children have come to share my love of Downer. I was a camper for many years. I completed the Counselor in Training program and was honored to join the staff in 1985. I am currently the Assistant Director, but have been on staff for over 20 years, and have held almost every position in camp at one time or another. When I’m not at Downer, I live in Highgate my 2 sons, my husband, and our 2 cats. I have worked the past 9 school years as an Elementary Special Educator at an alternative school for students with emotional and behavioral challenges. Returning to downer every summer reinvigorates my soul.
